PHP5

2008/02/22 00:00

If you use PHP code in your site, then you should test the site to see if it works under PHP version 5. On 8 March 2008, the server administrators will start work on converting from PHP4 to PHP5.

You can check now to see if your site will work. Just add a special Apache Handler.

Once again, you only need to be concerned about this change if you use PHP on your web site.

For those who do use it, there should not be any problem after the conversion, but this procudure is just to be sure.

  1. Open your site's control panel (http://XXXXXX.com/cpanel) --Replace 'XXXXXX.com' with your site address.
  2. Scroll down the list of icons to discover the one called "File Manager".
  3. Select the folder next to 'public_html'.
  4. Select the word, '.htaccess'.
  5. In the upper-right corner of the browser window, select 'edit file'.
  6. Type, 'AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php', in the big text box.
  7. Select the Save button at the bottom of the page.
  8. Check your site to see if the PHP code works fine.
  9. Edit to the '.htaccess' file again to delete the line that you added (optional).

Send a note to me if there are problems.
